ispace Inc. is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with KDDI Corporation (hereinafter KDDI), the representative organization for the “Development and Demonstration of a Moon-Earth Communication System (FS),” one of the themes for the first public offering of the Space Strategy Fund implemented by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (hereinafter JAXA), to conduct a commissioned research contract on lunar mobile communications. With this contract, ispace will investigate and organize the timing, areas, use cases, and communication function and performance requirements for lunar exploration missions, especially those that require mobile communications.
This theme was adopted in November 2024 with KDDI as the representative organization, and the feasibility of large-capacity communications between the Moon and Earth and on the Moon’s surface has been examined together with other collaborating organizations. ispace has now been commissioned by KDDI to carry out part of the mission requirements survey and constraints survey, which are the basis of this study, and will cooperate in efforts to realize large-capacity communications connecting the Earth and the Moon.
