三菱電機株式会社 will begin offering “xAUTO”, an autonomous driving service compatible with Level 4 autonomous driving and fully automated from vehicle dispatch to vehicle operation, to resort facilities from October. This service will enable smooth and safe transportation within resort facilities.
In Japan, the declining birthrate, aging population, and population decline are causing a serious driver shortage in various industries. In particular, the tourism industry, which is seeing an increase in domestic tourists and foreign visitors to Japan, is concerned about a decline in service quality due to further labor shortages. For example, at resort facilities that occupy vast premises, transporting customers around the premises in carts is an important service, but the limited staff required to arrange, assign, and drive the carts poses a challenge, hindering the company’s core customer service duties.

“xAUTO” is an autonomous driving service that automatically handles everything from vehicle dispatch to vehicle operation based on user reservations. The service utilizes an advanced vehicle dispatch algorithm, developed by applying the traffic control and remote monitoring technologies that the company has cultivated in the railway and air traffic control fields, to ensure smooth simultaneous operation of multiple vehicles. Safety is also ensured by detecting obstacles using object recognition technology that utilizes LiDAR. Furthermore, the service is equipped with our proprietary anti-fog function, ensuring safe driving even in foggy weather, where LiDAR is prone to false detections.
