Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings has introduced the data virtualization solution “Denodo Platform” provided by Denodo Technologies. This creates an environment where data can be collected in as little as three business days while complying with laws and security requirements. The company is promoting data-based business reform. It has been in full operation since October 2024. At Tokyo Electric Power Company, which adopts a holdings system, each operating company has its own system for each business and uses data. On the other hand, there is a growing need to utilize data beyond the boundaries of departments and companies, and it was urgent to develop an environment that allows easy cross-sectional data use while ensuring security. Until now, it was possible to obtain data by following the necessary procedures, but in some cases it took more than two months from application to acquisition, making it difficult to use data quickly.
In addition, to achieve data integration, it is necessary to individually build a configuration that complies with laws and security requirements, and system modifications are required each time. In addition, because the granularity and structure of data differ between each system, conversion processing is also essential, and many challenges had to be overcome. By introducing the Denodo Platform, TEPCO reduced the man-hours required for data acquisition by up to 80%. Data can now be acquired in as little as three business days, with an average of five. The person in charge said, “We have an environment in place where we can quickly acquire, process, and analyze the data we need when we need it.” The burden of data integration on-site has been greatly reduced by eliminating the need to modify individual systems and complex procedures, which had been an issue until now. Productivity has also improved in maintaining the data collection source systems.

Currently, the company has eight systems linked to the Denodo Platform, and many people have praised it as a “very interesting system.” The company plans to expand the number of systems it can connect to in the future. In addition, the fact that it can be intuitively operated with GUI operations even without knowledge of SQL is a major attraction for users in the business department.
